I haven’t written in an entire year… LOL.
I have felt so excited for the new year coming. New year new you, am I right?!? 😉
Something you should know is I am very passionate about wisdom.
My entire life I have prayed that God would bless me with wisdom beyond my years.
To my younger sisters asking me about this a few days ago 😉
Passing this on: Seek wisdom through these various EFFECTIVE ways,
- The word of God: “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” 2 Timothy 3:16
- Trusted mentors:A mentor who is not ready to say what you need to hear, lead you in perfect conduct with the word of God, and lives by “Do as I say, not as I do”is a leader you can live without. Pray long about this before you seek one out.
- Parents (Guardians):Never forget the power of the words from those who gave you life and keep you alive. They should always have your best interest in mind so never be too busy to hear what they have to say about things.
- Prayer and Fasting: Never underestimate time alone with God. Things WILL be made clear for you, and waiting time is NEVER wasting time.
I know that if I go to my parents with a question, they WILL give me a wise answer. Though I am 21, I have no shame in saying I still wish to have my parents blessing to do things, even when I’m 483.4 miles away from them at college. It is an instilled piece of tiny Sierra that I really don’t think will ever leave. I guess you could say I find great security in knowing I have permission to do something. It’s funny!
I have something on my heart. This time instead of asking for my parents permission, I knew I needed permission from someone else. I needed to make sure this was a post God had anointed me to write. If I’m being honest it has taken me days to get this out the best that I can. It is, however, fitting in the new year. Love ya friend! Enjoy and take every moment as it comes in this 2018 year.
Are you ready for some big/little sister wisdom? Sure you are. I like stories so lets start with one.
It was a warm Wednesday morning.
I was sitting at work when my phone rang. I clicked the lock button and decided I would check it after the meeting.
I had a very strong coffee and notepad in hand. I was about to step into a LifeLight planning meeting (office I worked in) for a concert coming up and into town.
I received a random text from a friend that read, “Oh my word, is hunter ok?”.
Confused I answered, “What? He’s at school.”.
After a moment my phone began to ring again with the word “Mom” on my screen. I decided to answer because I was getting confused and she never called me at work.
I remember the crackling sound of my moms trembling voice when she told me “Sierra, there has been a shooting at the High School.”
“What” I said. “When?”
“Just now!” She said.
She continued to tell me that Hunter was at school under his desk. She described to me what he said about a random loud “bang”, the receptionist yelling over the intercom, the scary silence of the school after the bang, the police and SWAT team banging on all the doors to see if there were other students in on it. She said that we could not go and get him. The school was on high alert and the situation was not contained.
That call took 1 minute.
What happened at the school: One random day during a 3rd period English study time, a fellow student, just right of my brothers desk, stood up from their desk. Their backpack was in hand. As Hunter with headphones in his ears glanced over, he noticed that everything that would normally go into a backpack was still laying on this persons desk. He looked away, not thinking anything of it, and went back to typing. The student asked to leave and the teacher nodded. A few minutes went by, when suddenly a single gun shot was heard throughout the hallways. A frantic receptionists voice echoed over the intercom system yelling “lock down, lock down”. A troubled teens life was forever changed that day because of a single decision they made in the heat of the moment. By the grace of God, no one was killed that day but the principal was wounded.
The entirety of this incident clocked in at a grand total of 5 minutes.
This students life was forever changed in 5 minutes.
The principals life was forever changed in 5 minutes.
The security of the class was forever changed in 5 minutes.
2015-2017 has taught me some hard lessons.
However, a continuous theme arose from them all.
“Just because something happens so fast, does not mean it’s ok to assume the end is written.”
Everything in-between really does exist.
Know that the moments between are what make the ending. In other words, “The destination cannot come, if the journey never takes place.”
Minutes and seconds determine the years and decades of your life. Think about the most intense moment of your life. Sad news, loss, realization of a situation? This happened within minutes if not seconds.
This could have happened years ago, but you still remember it better than what you ate yesterday.
Moments in minutes determine your life. A collective of moments are what you will remember most, and are what people will remember you as.
This year, I challenge you friend. Take every moment as it comes. Small, large, hard, easy. Embrace the gift of the now, to make your Heavenly Father proud.
Let nothing stand in your way to make him famous in all you do.
When you see others falling off course, make it your mission to lead them back to the one who loves them most. For we are all subject to this at anytime, so make sure to keep your bothers and sisters accountable, in love. (“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” -John 13:35)
When I stand before God at the end of my life, I want to have a victorious report for every moment he gave me on this earth. I pray that I can say those crucial moments I was given, I did my absolute best to never waste them on my own self-pity, pride or pleasure. I want to be able to stand in complete humility and give an honest account for this time in 2018 that he has gifted me with.
This is my prayer for you as well this year! This is your year!! So many days left, and yet so little time.
It’s never too late. Start today!
I end with this, life will never be easy. NEVER.
The day Eve ate the apple did not happen for sin, it happened because of sin. It happened because the separation of God requires the realization of how much you need him. Sadly, some people never realize it, but thats why we were made. To be the hands, to be the feet, to be the example. AUTHENTIC example. Not the one that looks good when we are in front of those who we wish to impress, or the one that seeks approval from those over them all for self gain.
The authentic example that lives a life of humble admiration, and still knows without God they are nothing. The authentic example that wakes up looking for ways to ‘bless rather than impress’.
We don’t need another charismatic speaker, ambitious singer or motivational author. We need people who will set down their own agenda for a successful career, and get busy with the gifts God has anointed them with.
A moment today can change everything or nothing. Let’s examine our hearts and make sure the effort put towards these moments in this year are for His kingdom and not ours.
You’re awesome. Now go be awesome for Jesus… 🙂
“…perhaps, this is the moment in which you were created for.”
“When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”
“My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad indeed; my inmost being will rejoice when your lips speak what is right.”
“By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare beautiful treasures.”
